How to Pick Your First GenAI Use Case

Good first projects share four traits. Use this short checklist to choose yours.

Quadrant of use cases by business value and feasibilityTechnical deep diveScoring GenAI Use Cases With a Weighted Model →Architecture, code, and trade-offs for engineers and technical leads.

The best first GenAI project is not the most exciting one. It is the one most likely to succeed and show value quickly.

  • It is a painful, frequent task that people already dislike.
  • You already have the data or documents it needs.
  • You can measure the before and after.
  • It is small enough to ship in about 30 days.

A quick test

List five candidate tasks and score each one from 1 to 5 on these four points. Start with the highest score, not the biggest idea.

Once you have one, scope it tightly and set the success measure before any building starts.
